E-Readiness Level Tool for Small and Medium Enterprises

The coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has affected all small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Given the enormous damage done to the economy and labor force in the private sector, support for private enterprises is necessary to keep the economy alive.

Westport Consulting in partnership with SERDA, with the support of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Balkan Office, conducted a survey on the use of ICT in SMEs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the period from September 2020 to March 2021.

The aim of the survey was to analyze the use of ICT tools, especially e-business, network promotions, sales and home deliveries of SME products, the impact of COVID-19 on SMEs, etc. The project team has developed an e-readiness level tool for ICT for SMEs – available here.

The idea behind this tool is that SMEs can conduct a self-assessment on their e-readiness for the digital economy. The tool explores three levels of analysis: ICT infrastructure, general assessment of ICT capabilities in enterprises, analysis of training needs and assessment of market and environment maturity.

E-readiness will be helpful to small and medium-sized enterprises to determine the steps of readiness to participate in the digital economy.
